The Fair Work Commission’s expert panel chaired by President Justice Iain Ross handed down the Annual Wage Review 2019-20 decision this morning at 10am.
The Modern Awards have been placed into three groups with each group having a different commencement date. The Awards covering Civil Construction businesses including the Building and Construction General On-site Award 2010, Cement, Lime and Quarrying Award 2010, Clerks- Private Sector Award, Manufacturing and Associated Industries Award 2010 and Road Transport and Distribution Award 2010 have all been placed in Group 2.
The Full Bench have advised of an annual wage increase applicable to Modern Awards in Group 2 of 1.75% effective from the first full pay period on or from 1 November 2020.
The timetable for the decision was impacted this year by COVID-19 and the financial impact on business and employees needed to be considered prior to a decision being handed down. Employer groups called for a wage freeze while the unions argued for a 4% increase.
